Het werk van Astrid Nobel bestaat uit sculpturen, installaties en schilderijen van materialen uit de Noord- en Waddenzee. Als een getuige van de vloedlijn observeert ze aandachtig en gebruikt wat opvalt, verandert of afwijkt in wat de zee aan land brengt. Vanuit haar persoonlijke band met het gebied zoekt ze naar symptomen van extractie, vervuiling en (massa)sterfte, maar ook naar manieren om de verwantschap met het landschap en het universum uit te beelden. Ze verwerkt gevonden materialen die van zichzelf al veel kennis en ervaring in zich dragen in samenhang met wetenschappelijke bevindingen, (lokale) geschiedenis en persoonlijke ervaringen. De werken geven aandacht aan zowel de ernst van de klimaatcrisis als de kracht en schoonheid van de levende natuur. The work of Astrid Nobel consists of sculptures, installations and paintings made of materials from the North and Wadden Sea. As a witness to the tide line, she observes attentively and uses what stands out, changes or deviates in what the sea brings to land. Based on her personal connection with the area, she looks for symptoms of extraction, pollution and (mass) death, but also for ways to portray the interconnectedness with the landscape and the universe. She processes found materials that already hold knowledge and experience within themselves in combination with scientific findings, (local) history and personal experiences. The works highlight both the severity of the climate crisis as well as the power and beauty of living nature.
